What Is Astrology?

what is astrology 3

The word astrology is derived from the Greek words astron meaning “star” and logos meaning “word.” Astrology therefore, literally means the “language of the stars.”  Astrology is based on an ancient law known as “AS ABOVE, SO BELOW,” otherwise known as the Law of the Macrocosm and the Microcosm. The Macrocosm is the universe, symbolized by the sky, or the starry dome which we can see from Earth. The Microcosm is us: man or woman, the human, the individual here on Earth.

The Sun, Moon and planets all follow exact patterns of movement. Astrology focuses on the study of these movements having an influence on human affairs. So, it is an astrological belief that the same laws which apply to the movements of the heavenly bodies also operate in our personal lives. We are not separate from the universe – we are a part of it. Its energies are our energies, and we must therefore work in the same way that it works.

The basic idea is that all the individual parts of the universe, from planets to people, cooperate with each other and work together in harmony. This study is a predestined cosmic design, as Astrology tends to focus on the connections between everything in the world. Through connections, everything is linked. The people, the planets, and the stars align themselves and form some sort of rhythmic collaborative sense of meaning, ultimately.

It is an astrological assumption that if we learn to look above for an understanding, we will come to understand more about ourselves. Astrology provides us with a way of understanding the forces from the universe and how these forces affect our personalities and behaviors as people.

Astrology provides cosmic clues as to why you’re attracted to, repelled by or indifferent to those you meet. It helps you take personality clashes less to heart, but also show potential red flags to watch out for. Some connections are sparked by friction, and astrology helps you take the long view, and see them as challenges that cause you both to grow. Astrology gives us rich tools for understanding human character, and offers us a language for communicating our observations with others.

Astrology is an incredible tool of self-discovery. If life seems like a series of meaningless events, astrology can be a comforting sign that perhaps things happen for a reason. It can shine light on inner contradictions and natural strengths. Astrology is a guide to self-understanding that never stops revealing new layers of insight.
